THE REAL-MUSIC SESSIONS

A friendly, welcoming and informal gathering of musicians, singers, poets.

8pm-11pm in Willington

To be fair to other performers we request that a "one song spot" is classed as under 5 minutes. A "two song spot" is under 9 minutes. So if you feel the need for a long introduction you are requested to limit the length of your songs accordingly. I know it sounds petty but I want to give as many people as possible the chance to play.

HOT NEWS

With more and more new artistes and music-lovers discovering the RMC Sessions week on week and a pool of talent that is now so deep the bottom third is in darkness we have taken the unprecedented decision to cancel all holidays and to keep the club open right through the summer.

We have closed in previous years since many take holidays in August. However the consensus of opinion is that we are better having quiet, intimate sessions with a handful of people than no session at all. Point taken.

And yes we have the same pressure to cancel the winter break as well - or at least limit it to Christmas/New Year rather then the 6 or 7 weeks we have at present.

So that's it - it's official -
we are now meeting every Thursday
except for a two week break in January
just wall to wall music (well almost - wall to wall with a little skylight on the south side).

We advise everyone who wants to perform to get there by 8pm if possible.
Many sessions are packed and each performer has been given 1 song in the first round and 1 or 2 songs in the second round. In the past we have managed up to 5 songs each so you can see how the word is spreading.
We have 3 hours from 8pm - 11pm and I like to have at least 15 minutes break to give people a chance to chat. Remember to check the diary to know what is happening and if we have any Showcase Specials on.
To be fair we will, for future Sessions, restrict the number of performers and will allocate spots so that I can still maintain some control over.
Unfortunately, once all spots are booked we will have to say no.
We will try to be as flexible as possible because we realise that some people rely on public transport, travel long distances, or are restricted because of work committments.

One request from me - although I enjoy melancholy songs ....
Please sing at least one happy song. It is Thursday after all!
