"The Good Life" by Mary L. de Ville

Maybe I should go to bed

But who cares what lies ahead,

Know that you’re a long time dead,

Happy voices calling me,

Join them in this reverie,

Blissful opportunity

To shake off melancholy,

Know this is transitory,

Days like this will soon be done,

Now’s the time to have some fun,

Rhythm causes heart to beat,

Movement makes the pulses leap,

Caught up in the fervour,

Need not go any further,

Life’s champagne I will partake,

Fantastic fizz bubbles make,

Feel I’m on a higher plane,

One that I shall then remain

Long after this night’s over.

If I could but stay right here,

Future life would hold no fear,

Could escape from all the dross,

Would not feel a sense of loss,

All around there is a glow,

Move along with the flow,

Know that I will have to go

When the night fades into dawn,

All dissipating by morn,

Now I will be swept along,

Boyd up by music and song,

Shaking off inhibitions,

Making most of the frissons,

Intoxication takes hold,

Soon I will become too old

And times like these will be past

Have to make the moment last,

Some time I’ll look back and say

Way back then I had my day.

"Two Seasons" by Mary L. de Ville

Dark dismal days gone,

Colour erupts everywhere,

Bringing life and hope.

Winter’s lethargy

Explodes into energy,

Motivating all.

Past starkness softens

With every new leaf and blade,

Saturating senses.

Long nights decreasing,

Time gradually expanding,

Opportunity.

----------------

Long days shortening,

Bright brash leaves become burnished

As sunlight weakens.

Fruits of year’s labours

In plentiful abundance,

Consumed thankfully.

Past lushness starkens,

Green turns golden brown and falls,

Creating new vistas.

Pace of all changes

As hyperactivity

Slows and relaxes.

"Just A Little Niche" by Mary L. de Ville

I didn’t ask for the sun,

I didn’t ask for the moon,

Never thought it possible

We could dance the same tune.

Knew that all I could expect

Was a very tiny part,

Just a little niche,

Somewhere in your heart.

I didn’t ask for silver,

I didn’t ask for gold,

Nor did I seek commitment,

I wouldn’t be so bold,

But what I dared to hope for

Right from the very start,

Was a little niche

Deep inside your heart.

I didn’t ask for flames,

I didn’t ask for fire,

Nothing that could burn away,

Never wanted it to tire.

Really thought I saw a glow,

That there was a spark

Deep inside this niche

Hidden in your heart.

I might as well have asked for

The moon, the stars and the sun,

Silver, gold and diamonds,

Wanted each and every one.

They would have been as likely

To have played a part

As a little niche

Somewhere in your heart.
