Cheerio but be back soon

The Joint Venture between The Real-Music Club and Sharpe's Pottery Museum closed at the end of 2007 after presenting the "Real-Music in the Kiln" programme of concerts for the past two years.

The final concert was held on 22nd December 2007 and showcased local musicians in The Real-Music Christmas Bash.

The consistent response received from artistes, the press and most importantly audiences was that this Joint Venture was a worthwhile and successful contribution to the Live Acoustic Music Scene. The Real-Music Club and Sharpe's Pottery Museum are rightly proud of what they achieved together.

The Real-Music Club will continue to promote Live Music in South Derbyshire and their popular Thursday Night Sessions continue uninterrupted.

This means, for the time being, our energies will be focussed on our local activities and we won't be taking regular bookings or looking to place performer's on a regular basis during 2008.

Our sessions are free and open to anyone who turns up.

Usually we have a very full program and work on the principle that everyone who is there by 8pm gets a chance to perform at least one song, usually two, sometimes three.

Because of the nature of these sessions we can't book people in advance, nor can we pay anyone to perform

If you are in the area and get the chance please come along, see what we are up to and join in. We are a friendly lot and I can promise you a good night.

Some Quotes about The Real-Music Club

“Martin Simpson Saturday, I really think we saw something special, what a brilliant show.” Alan Walker 14/05/07 See Reviews

"We all had a lovely night. It's a special venue, and you have gathered an amazing team to make it all run smoothly." Maggie Boyle 16/03/07

"Put one of the world’s leading guitarists in one of the most acoustically superior and intimate venues in the country and you've got a recipe for a memorable occasion. And that’s just what came together as Martin Simpson became the latest top artist to be presented at Swadlincote’s Sharpe’s Pottery Museum Kiln by the Willington-based Real-Music Club at the weekend... Swad’s Kiln is simply ideal for such performances with its magnificent acoustics and the proximity of the audience to the performer – there simply can’t be a better way to enjoy the widely varied styles of “roots” music championed by the Real-Music Club... With a warmly received support set from club regular Neil Dalton and slick compering from singer and guitarist Terry Wood to add to the entertainment, it seems surreal that tickets for Saturday’s performance were only £10 – reflecting the kind of quality it is possible to enjoy on today’s hugely underrated so-called “folk” scene." Burton Mail Friday 10/05/07 Review by Burton Mail

"I've been to many, many folk clubs over the years but I can honestly say I've never visited a club night with so much quality, diversity and sheer numbers as last week's at the Green Man - it was a fantastic night. Congratulations. Cheers for now"

It would be hard not to give the club a good endorsement as i've never failed to have a good time there :-) Tim (and Diane)

"I must admit that I had not heard of Ken (Nicol) before looking in the forthcoming performance handouts. What made the night doubly special was seeing and hearing someone completely new to me and realising as the night progressed that all the superlatives used to describe Kens playing and singing were spot on. Marvellous guitar work and an interesting mix of songs beautiful presented.

Support from Stuart (Davis) and Kris (Spencer) as usual was excellent.

When the audience is perfectly quiet apart from the applause you know you have something good. The sort of night when you wish there was still an hour to go when the final song is announced." Alan Walker

Our last few sessions have been

Really friendly, musically interesting and entertaining evenings.”

We have had a great mix of newcomers, regulars and occasional visitors all adding their own unique ingredient into the Session Soup

If you were there then read my take on the evenings. If you weren't then read up on what you missed, what great talent we have in the area, and what it’s like at a Real-Music Club Session.

Sessions in Willington

We have a beautiful time at our sessions at the Green Man and Rising Sun and it is wonderful how we have settled back in so quickly at The Sun.

I know it can be a bit confusing which pub we are at but there is a pattern -PROMISE. We go from one pub to the other except we can't have the 3rd Thursday of any month at The Rising Sun. So, once every 3rd month we have a little skip. For details - go to The Sessions Diary

Anyway if you go to the wrong pub -just cross the road.

Hope to see you soon - It's not the same without you
